Paper core composite

Composite materials are light, yet strong and therefore find use in a growing number of applications. However, these materials suffer from specific defects such as delaminations, impurities and other, which are hard to detect. Ultrasound is often preferred to X -ray imaging as the light elements of composites have a very low contrast in regular X-ray images.

The photon counting cameras with their virtually unlimited dynamic range can visualise structures of composite materials otherwise invisible with X-rays and even hard to detect with ultrasound techniques, which are inherently low-resolution.
